The Shelbyville site is the largest manufacturing site for IPL’s Returnable & Environmental business unit in the United States; a business which has annual revenue of approximately $110m with significant growth potential and is part of the Environmental, Returnable and Industrial Solutions (ERIS) Division of IPL.

Position Title: Tooling Technician

Location: Shelbyville, Kentucky

Purpose

To maintain Molds in a safe and efficient manner, perform necessary scheduled and unscheduled repairs of all tooling and tooling machinery. Develop and maintain an ongoing preventative maintenance program for all Macro Plastics tooling. Manage and maintain inventory of tools and tooling components.

General Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and manage a preventative maintenance program ensuring an efficient and safe working environment while managing costs and utilizing the lowest dependable suppliers.
  • Establish a cycle count system for scheduled repairs which will assist in limiting downtime due to unscheduled repairs while maintaining adequate levels of inventory to ensure quick turnaround of repairs and collaborating with outside contractors to meet or exceed repair guidelines for cost and repair time.
  • Provide history of repairs and associated costs for scheduled/unscheduled repairs and maintain and or acquire necessary equipment to limit tooling downtime.
  • Provide tooling support for daily production efforts by developing and implementing in press cleaning schedule.
  • Create and update cleaning process for all tooling.
  • Perform necessary in press modifications, repairs as required.
  • Manage outside tooling contractors by communicating and establishing performance expectations.
  • Ensure that all work is quoted for price and time.
  • Track all repair costs and deliveries to evaluate outside contractors.
  • Work with Macro Engineering to develop new contractor relationships.
  • Collaborate with corporate staff to ensure policies and procedures are written, reviewed, updated, properly filed, and communicated.
  • Highly responsive to daily operations and customer concerns.
  • Revise documented procedures, as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Extensive tooling and machining knowledge
  • Knowledge of tool and related system design and functions
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Knowledge/Education Required:

  • Associates degree in engineering or related desired. (Related work experience can be substituted for educational requirement.)
  • 10+ years of experience in the injection Mold design and processing, preferably in the plastics industry.
  • Ability to work with a variety of outside contractors.
