The role

We are currently recruiting for an Engineering and Continuous Improvement Manager to join the IPL team at our Tamworth Facility. As an E&CI Manager you will ensure that the infrastructure, tooling and technical documentation for production are in place and validated for all contracts. You will take full responsibility for providing relevant data for bids, drive standardisation and productivity and ensure Engineering for Manufacturing. This is a varied role where you will be involved in regulatory, operational and commercial activities.

As an Engineering & Continuous Improvement Manager at IPL you will:

  • Direct and organise the Technical Team to provide excellent level of performance and on time delivery of material and services
  • Lead by setting ambitious targets and by following a structured PDCA process on all levels.
  • Create a structure and processes for efficient collaboration with all adjacent functions, e.g Engineering, Project Management, Production Control and Procurement.
  • Interact with Design/customers to make sure that future design meets Operations requirements and enables continuous improvement of product and processes.
  • Make sure that infrastructure, tooling and technical documentation for production are in place on time and is planned and controlled by a comprehensive and efficient TPM system.
  • Oversee continuous improvement activities, support the development of strategies that capitalise on competitive advantage. Identifying new capital projects to drive efficiencies as well as everyday opportunities within the manufacturing operations
  • Lead the introduction and implementation of new manufacturing methodologies, systems and software that will allow the business to provide improved service at lower cost.
  • Provide on time reliable data for bids: calculation of hours in production and technical services
  • Ensure resource and budget planning and control for area of responsibility
  • NPI. Being involved in turning round new business in an effective and timely manner.
  • Identifying alternative products and raw material to be used in our current formulations and working with the operations team to ensure these are cost effective.
  • Liaising with key technical teams to successfully improve products when needed and facilitate scale up and manufacturing processing.
  • Acting as a point of contact for formulation technical queries and complaints.
  • Liaising with external regulatory bodies, consultants, and suppliers
  • Supporting the sales team with technical questions and queries.
  • Running existing product feasibility trials across the whole product range ensuring that best practise is consistently applied to the use of raw materials and production applications.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date awareness of advances in polymer science and an in-depth knowledge of the latest competitor products.
  • Working closely with product development, quality, and testing teams to ensure projects are accomplished in line with objectives.
  • Ensuring policies, procedures and documentation relating to materials development are prepared and maintained at the level necessary to satisfy ISO 9001 and customer standards.
  • Leading on collaborative projects with the quality and technical team such as new projects / products
  • Leading on R&D and NPD projects consistently.
  • Supporting customers with queries, new testing/ trials and supervise trials for customers to ensure correct and effective feedback is received.
  • Keeping on top of and rolling out legislative updates and represent these in management meetings

What you will bring to the role:

  • 5-8 years of experience in a relevant role.
  • Experience in the following areas, engineering and manufacturing, HSE, Project Management and Finance.
  • Sound understanding of manufacturing engineering and all interfacing functions in a project.
  • Understanding of financials, and project gate review process.
  • Well-developed time management and personal organisation skills, ability to manage multiple projects
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to develop personal relationships with team members.
  • Possess commercial experience working on polymers.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with customers that gives the ability to fully understand their products needs from both a technical and commercial perspective
  • Ability to take an objective view of technical problems and address them with creativity and innovation.
  • Continuous Improvement Tools & Techniques, formal lean qualification is desirable
